Spiritual Development

At Redding Christian School, we do not treat spiritual issues as separate from the secular. It is our prayer that the Spirit of Christ will flow naturally throughout every area of school life. Christian education takes place when the Holy Spirit activates the teaching and learning process, regardless of the subject.

We follow the principles set down in Deuteronomy 6:5-7 which says, "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your strength. And these words...you shall teach diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit, when you walk, when you lie down and when you rise up."

Every aspect of the school day is influenced by biblical principles, which impacts academics, discipline, relationships, and overall culture of Redding Christian School.

RCS Statement of Faith

  • We believe the Bible is the only inspired Word of God. [Thessalonians 2:13; II Timothy 3:16]
  • We believe in one God, eternally existent in three persons: Father, Son, and holy Spirit. [(The doctrine of the Holy Trinity) John 8:58; John 10:30; Acts 5:3,4]
  • We believe that Jesus Christ, God's only son, came as God in the flesh to provide forgiveness of sin through His atoning death, His bodily resurrection, and His ascension to the right hand of the Father. [I John 5:20; Colossians 1:13-14; I Peter 1:18-21; Acts 7:56]
  • We believe each believer's salvation is accomplished by their faith in Christ's redemptive work on the cross, and that even their faith is God-given. [Ephesians 2:8-9; Romans 3:22-25]
  • We believe in the present ministry of the Holy Spirit whose indwelling presence enables the Christian to live a godly life. [John 14:26]
  • We believe that believers have eternal life with Christ. [John 3:16; John 6:47; II Thessalonians :8-9; Revelations 20:1]
  • We believe in the spiritual unity of believers in our Lord Jesus Christ. [Ephesians 4:2-6]

Spiritual Emphasis Retreat

In accordance with our concern for spiritual development and commitment of RCS students, there is an annual spiritual retreat planned for the junior high and high school. These are times of refreshing, renewing of commitments, fellowship and spiritual empowerment. School time is used and retreat attendance is expected of all students. The late August junior high retreat and early September high school retreat allow students to form bonds and create friendships early in the school year. RCS teachers are the camp counselors and staff. In addition to school staff, a guest speaker is usually brought in and is involved in the main service.

Discipleship

Students are encouraged to deepen their faith and walk with Christ and are involved in an on-going discipleship program that permeates every aspect of school life. These small groups meet regularly with a teacher who is committed to encouraging spiritual growth in each student.

Chapel

Chapels are held weekly for the spiritual enrichment of the student body and incorporate worship, recognition of students receiving awards and a special speaker program. Parents are welcome and encouraged to attend chapels.
